Why The Potato Eaters by Vincent Van Gogh is my favorite painting?
When I googled Van Gogh to browse for a painting, The Potato Eaters stood out because of its grand drawing of both inanimate and animate objects. The humans' faces are detailed including showing expressions. There is a sense of depth provided by painting a visual coming from a lantern. I quickly made the decision to choose this to fulfill an assignment for an Art class.
Throughout Van Gogh's short life, he perpetually lived in urban destitution. So, he ended up paint portraits of poor people, just like I think I would. At least in this artwork, Van Gogh rendering a positive feeling among the people living in poverty as oppose to showing prejudice views about poor people. A light right in the middle brings ray of hope for these people in dire situations.
